“There is nothing left for me but to live fully and completely in the present, praying as I pray and writing and praying when I write and worrying for nothing but the wish and the glory of God, finding these as best I can in the sacrament of the moment.”  Thomas Merton

Contemplative Outreach of Central Florida is happy to welcome Father Burnham to direct this one-day retreat on the topic of Thomas Merton and the sacrament of the moment.

As we prepare for Christmas, this retreat will provide direction to deepen our spiritual life through finding ourselves and finding God in the moment. There will be several periods of Centering Prayer during the day. The COCFL team is looking forward to gathering again in person or by Zoom with our Centering Prayer friends.

Father Burnham, is a native of Baltimore, and a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore as well as a licensed counselor. He holds a doctorate in philosophy and a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Loyola University in Maryland.

As a priest of the Sulpician order, he has done much work in spiritual direction and formation of priests.

He is currently a formator at Assumption Seminary in San Antonio, Texas.

Fr. Burnham completed his undergraduate education in Northern Kentucky. It was here that he was introduced to the teaching and spirituality of Thomas Merton. He later made regular silent retreats at Merton’s home at the Abbey of Gethsemani in Trappist, KY. He refers to Merton as one of his “spiritual heroes” and model for the contemplative life. Fr. Burnham has been a CP practitioner for several decades.
