United in Prayer Day

A globally-hosted 24-hour day of prayer accessible via Zoom

William Congdon
William Congdon, “Eucaristia 2 (Sabbato Sancto)”, 1961

In the global unity of silence as God’s first language,
we honor  Fr. Thomas Keating’s birthday (March 7)
and the growing presence of Christ among us.

Join in silence and community at any time, as many times as you are able. Each hour will begin with at least 20 minutes of Centering Prayer, followed by an offering from the hosting group, which may include a video segment, the practice of Lectio Divina, selected readings, community sharing, chanting, etc.

United in Prayer Day 2021

  • Will be a 24-hour, globally-hosted day of prayer.
  • Each one-hour segment will begin at the top of the hour with 20 minutes or more of Centering Prayer.  After that, each group may facilitate the rest of the time as they wish – Lectio Divina, a video segment, readings, etc.
  • International groups will be encouraged to sign-up for one-hour timeslots (or more, if desired). The global team will actively invite various countries and emerging groups (e.g., Philippines, South Korea, Berlin group, Czech group, Poland, Iceland).  We wish for as many different groups from as many different countries and languages as possible.
  • Please see this sign-up spreadsheet in UTC.  This link may be shared with your teams and contacts to facilitate sign-ups.
  • How to use the spreadsheet: Reading left to right, it starts the 24-hour day in New Zealand and continues through to Hawaii.
    • Find your UTC time zone and preferred time slot
    • In column Z, insert group name, location and languages spoken by facilitator.
    • In column, AA, insert facilitator(s) name
    • In column AB, insert facilitator(s) email address(es)
    • I have provisionally reserved the 9-11am Eastern (New York) Time for ECI; this can be updated if ECI wishes to choose several different times for their community
  • The worldwide community will be encouraged and welcome to attend any group, regardless of language or time zone. Once the schedule is known, it will be posted and communicated via the website, social media and e-blasts.
  • A common Zoom platform will be used for the prayer day.  Facilitators will be given the host code and some guidelines for hosting and turning over the platform for the next group.
